India’s first Animation, Visual effects & Gaming Institute to start at Mumbai’s Film City



As per the guidelines, by the Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai will be the first city in India, to have Training Institute for visual effects, animation, gaming and comics. The institute is expected to introduce ,  a total of 16 UG and PG courses , like ; BDes : Animation and Interactive Media , BSc Games Development , BDes Games , BFA Digital Arts Animation , Master of Animation Games and MSc Computer Animation Visual Effects .

After finalising the opening of the Training Institute , The Maharashtra government , has also decided to allot 20 acres of land at Goregaon  Film City, Mumbai ; to come up with a building , where the nuances of  Animation , Visual Effects , Gaming and Comics will be taught  . The institute will be officially named , as National Centre for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics hereafter .

The Institute will be collaborated between a public and a private sector partnership . Thus , The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry , as well as , The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) , will be a part of this prestigious  project.

Moreover , once its established , the institute ,  will be operated  by , The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) ,  wherein , different visual effects, animation, gaming and comics courses , will be offered , so that , the students can specialize accordingly , at UG, PG, and PhD levels.

The expected cost for the construction , of the National Centre for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics is estimated , to be about Rs 200 crore . The institute will likely to be functional  ,in two years time .

According to , The Information and Broadcasting Ministry, this booming industry for visual effects , animation , gaming and comics , comprises more than 7% of the overall media and entertainment industry and is expected to cross Rs 14,747crore by  2019 .
