The Palm
Springs Global Animation Festival (PSIAF)declared the winners of its debut
accolades. The festivities which ran Nov. 9-11, included more that 250 short
& six feature-length animated films from over 103 countries, along with
jury debates, seminars and academic programming.
The carnival
opened with clippings of Loving Vincent, an exclusive animated film comprising
of more than 65,000 hand-painted frameworks created in Vincent Van Gogh’s
unique oil-painting designs. The screen shots from Breakthru Films, was lauded
the best animated feature film and was attended by a special presentation from
the artists Charlene Mosley and Tiffanie Mang showing how to sketch/paint in a
Van Gogh’s design.
Other feature
presentations included Bilal : A new breed of champions, the full Middle
Eastern-sponsored and produced CG-animated inspirational film of Bilal Ibn
Rabah and Teharan Taboo. An Iranian born animated film producer- Ali Soozandeh
made a movie on the sex lives of a
hustlier, a male musician and two you women in Tehran. The feature was the
product of the younger generation views of repressed living in the real world in Iran.
The first
anniversary of PSIAF also featured a booming program of animated short films that delved into a wide range of styles
